Approaches used in Therapy with Kids & Teens
The interventions I use are tailored to each child depending on many factors such as age, presenting problem, goals, family circumstances, and individual needs. Here are some of the main approaches I may draw from:
-
Helping kids process big feelings and experiences through play (toys, games, creativity).
-
Building awareness of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while practicing new coping skills.
-
Art, movement, music, and creative expression give kids another language to explore feelings and tell their stories
-
Goal-oriented conversations that highlight strengths, small steps forward, and practical changes.
-
Interventions that gently support kids in processing difficult or overwhelming experiences.
-
Reframing their story, seeing themselves as capable and resilient, and make meaning of their experiences.
-
Using sand and miniatures, kids can build scenes that reflect their inner world, often expressing what words can’t.
-
Teaching kids and teens practical tools for managing emotions, improving relationships, and handling stress in the moment.
-
Helping children and teens understand the different “parts” of themselves and learning how those parts can work together.
You want so badly to feel confident that your child will find their way through the struggles, that they will flourish and thrive. Maybe you feel worried or have no idea where to start, but just know that your child may need some extra support. Watching your child navigate through a storm of intense emotions can be challenging, as it seems they are facing battles that aren't always visible or easy to understand. You want your child to know they are cherished, resilient, and capable of handling their big feelings.
Together, your kiddo and I can uncover all the beauty and strengths in their uniqueness and celebrate the small victories, figuring this out one step at a time. My goal is to empower your child, helping them to process and work through the hard things, all through a relational and warm approach. Through my personal journey and work experience, I deeply believe that a child's path to healing can be paved by a genuine and dependable relationship that holds the space where they feel truly heard, seen, and valued.
